Materials

Wood: Birch, Maple solid wood and cabinet grade engineered panels, Poplar.

Birch is usually most compared with Maple wood in terms of its properties. Birch has a fine and uniform texture, closed pores and no significant odor. Birch and Maple have a closed pored structure that stains and finishes to produce a beautiful and uniform finish. Birch is a favorite of woodworkers because it exhibits excellent machining properties and planes and sands to a smooth finish. Birch and Maple hold screws and nails securely and glues easily. Engineered panels are made from laminations of birch or maple veneer and are light but strong. It is among the strongest and most stable of all cabinet grade panels.

Tops: Rectangle – Engineered panels with ¾” x 1” solid hardwood edging, Round – Solid hardwood.

Legs, Posts, Rails, Feet, Frames: Solid hardwood from North America.

Sides, Shelves, Bed Panels: Cabinet grade engineered panels from North America with environmentally friendly construction.

Case Backs: ¼” engineered panels, glued and nailed, environmentally friendly. Interior face: flat or beadboard.

Drawer Boxes: Solid birch ½” side panels, nailed and glued lap join on all 4 corners, ¼ premium grade plywood bottoms, ¾” solid birch face, Clear coated.

Drawer Glides: Full-extension ball bearing drawer glides, 100# rating per pair for dressers, chests and large drawers. Small drawers use euro roller glides.

Door Hinges: Pin and hinge design, Antique Brass.

Finishes

Options: 4 standard stains, 42 standard paints.

Stains: Furniture grade lacquer based cabinet stain.

Paints: Minimum of two coats of low/no VOC cabinet grade paint and glaze.

Clear coat: All non-white paint and stained finishes include 2 – 3 coats of an ultra durable clear coat.

Two Tone Finish: Two tone finishes (stain/paint or paint/paint) are available for an upcharge. Typical two finishes include tables with a stained top and painted base, bookcases with the internal back panel a different color and painted cabinets with stained tops and shelves. Application of two tone finishes are finalized at order entry.

Custom Colors: Custom colors are available using either Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore paint colors. Please provide manufacturer, paint color number and paint name. Custom colors require an up charge.

Distressing & Rub

Please note: Cottage colors are only available with light distressing.

Standard Distressing: All surfaces are sanded for smoothness. On a painted finish, there will be worn spots where the wood shows through the paint, antiquing, wormholes, peeled paint, visible knots, nicks, and scratches. On a stained finish, there are wormholes, visible knots, nicks, and scratches. There is no bare wood showing on stained finishes.

All pieces ordered in Standard Colors come with Standard Distressing unless Light Distressing is requested.

Light Distressing: All surfaces are sanded for smoothness and there will be a slight rub-through on the sharp edges. Intentional nicks, dents, wormholes, scratches, and peeled paint are not applied to light distressing. However, minor wood imperfections and natural wood grain may still be visible. The finished color may appear slightly lighter than it does if ordered with standard distressing, due to lack of wood rub-through and glazing. Cottage Colors are only available with Light Distressing. As we do not combine distress levels, if you choose to combine Standard Colors with Cottage Colors on the same unit, the Standard Colors will be finished with Light Distressing.

With either distress level, eventual crackling, shrinking, non-threatening cracks, visible knots, and grain variances are the acceptable end-results of our finishing process. In addition, construction joints and seams may be visible. This is normal and is considered part of our finish. Light distress finishes will vary from the same finish ordered in standard distressing.

No Distressing (Solid): All surfaces are sanded for smoothness. With no distress, your piece will be painted with the selected paint without distress to change its appearance. No distress finishes will vary from the same finish ordered in standard distressing.

Measurements

All case good dimensions are based on the width and depth at the top molding. Internal dimensions will be 2” to 6” less than the external dimensions based on the product and the specific dimension being considered. Specific internal dimensions can be supplied on request.
