Rooms To Love: Contemporary Farmhouse Dining

A formal and family-friendly dining room is well sought after and this modern farmhouse dining room is a perfect example of that blend! The traditional ladderback chairs, double pedestal table, and huntboard look like old farmhouse finds, but paired with slipcovered head chairs, a dainty crystal chandelier, and lively window treatments helps to reduce the appearance of a stuffy dining room. Layering fabrics and textures on the chairs creates a casual feel around the more formal table, and slipcovers allow for easy cleaning when the inevitable spills happen.

Inspiration Board: Sunny Kitchen Nook

This rustic buffet in this sunny kitchen nook is made of reclaimed old pine making it a unique center island for the kitchen. Reclaimed wood has lots of personality with an array of markings from it’s years of wear. The age of this type of wood also makes for a harder surface and is not as penetrable as new pine. There are two types of wood treatments for a kitchen surface: stained and sealed, if not being used as a cutting surface, or oiled, if the surface will be used as a direct prep station. Incorporating a center island in the kitchen adds another work surface and offers a chance to punch up your look with color or detailing. If space permits, add stools for seating and an overhead pendant light – a great spot for morning coffee, after school homework, or late night snacking!

Celebrating Earth Day!

Every April, Earth Day reminds us to appreciate the beauty of the world around us, and how much we need to protect and preserve it. Our earth provides us with tangible necessities to live, like air, water, and food, but it also provides us with a constant intangible resource, it’s beauty. For centuries, that beauty has provided artists and designers alike with inspiration from luscious landscapes, magnificent mountains, and roaring seas.

To our valued customers,

Given the current market uncertainty, we felt it would be a good idea to provide you an update on our products. As you may know, we are a small, family-owned business that has been offering custom made furniture from our 15 US based workshops for over 20 years. Each of our custom furniture collections is made at a different workshop. We are a small business that supports other small businesses.

Fortunately for us, our workshops have minimal exposure to import tariffs. Our wood species (both new and reclaimed), iron beds, upholstery frames, seat cushions and floor cloths are all sourced in the US. Selective hardware, shoreline fabrics, and finishing products are imported but are a small percentage of our overall cost. Our wicker furniture frames are imported but cushions are all sourced in the US.

Currently, we have two collections affected by tariffs:

Cottage Wicker Furniture Collection: 6% Tariff
Shoreline Slipcovered Furniture Collection: 3% Tariff

We do not anticipate any significant price changes due to import tariffs. We look forward to continuing to create unique furniture designed by you and custom built for you.

Thank you,

Your Cottage Home Team
