This month’s Design Dilemma comes from a young family near NYC who own a beautiful three-story brownstone. They have a lower patio area in the back with a built-in grill & bar, and would like to create a spot for play dates, lounging, and casual entertaining. They also have a second floor deck, right off the kitchen, that is smaller (17′ L x 7’W) that they want to use as a quieter seating area for morning coffee and quick bites.

Teak patio furniture is a great choice for a beautifully weathered finish and a versatile style! Teak wood naturally grays over time, giving it an aged

Every April, Earth Day reminds us to appreciate the beauty of the world around us, and how much we need to protect and preserve it. Our earth provides us with tangible necessities to live, like air, water, and food, but it also provides us with a constant intangible resource, it’s beauty. For centuries, that beauty has provided artists and designers alike with inspiration from luscious landscapes, magnificent mountains, and roaring seas.

Whether it is a cottage by the ocean or a lakeside in the woods, cottage charm can take on many forms. A true cottage is outfitted with a wide variety of furniture and accessories to make it an eclectic and unique home. Here in Maine, the snow is starting to melt and patches of ground are peaking through. The days are longer – and the sun is warmer. After a long winter, we are all dreaming of those lazy days of summer when we can enjoy the great outdoors, so naturally we are thinking of outdoor decorating ideas.

The porch is typically an under-utilized space, but this quiet cottage porch has a clear purpose and a practical style. The relaxed linens and pillows piled high make the iron daybed a special spot, whether it’s a rainy afternoon with a book or a sunny morning with coffee and tea.

Just the mere word ‘lodge’ conjures images of a crackling fire…the aroma of a stew cooking in the kitchen…a rustic retreat designed for comfort and warmth. Your lodge could be a cozy log cabin on the prairie or a grandiose spread on a mountaintop out West. In fact, lodge style can be interpreted to fit just about every locale – east, west, north, south and in the middle. A lodge may be a vacation retreat or a year-round abode. Most of all, it’s a home for all seasons.

A staple of the country or cottage home, today’s braided rug is reminiscent of earlier days evoking memories of hearth and home. With sophisticated colors and patterns, braided rugs are now ‘at home’ in any setting from county cabin to urban contemporary. These are not your Grandma’s braided rugs!
Given the current market uncertainty, we felt it would be a good idea to provide you an update on our products. As you may know, we are a small, family-owned business that has been offering custom made furniture from our 15 US based workshops for over 20 years. Each of our custom furniture collections is made at a different workshop. We are a small business that supports other small businesses.
Fortunately for us, our workshops have minimal exposure to import tariffs. Our wood species (both new and reclaimed), iron beds, upholstery frames, seat cushions and floor cloths are all sourced in the US. Selective hardware, shoreline fabrics, and finishing products are imported but are a small percentage of our overall cost. Our wicker furniture frames are imported but cushions are all sourced in the US.
Currently, we have two collections affected by tariffs:
Cottage Wicker Furniture Collection: 6% Tariff
Shoreline Slipcovered Furniture Collection: 3% Tariff
We do not anticipate any significant price changes due to import tariffs. We look forward to continuing to create unique furniture designed by you and custom built for you.
