Rooms to Love: Unfussy Farmhouse #blues #reds #natural wood #fireplace www.cottagehomefurniture.com

Imagine enjoying a nature walk and finding yourself in an unfamiliar part of the woods just as twilight falls. Suddenly you emerge from the trees to see the glow of a fire in the window of a farmhouse and hear friendly shouted greetings. Welcome to the unfussy farmhouse above, where you are ushered into a century-old living room boasting richly stained original built-ins and a quaint whitewashed brick fireplace. You’re given the seat of honor next to the fire, in an antique armchair with plush persimmon upholstery, and handed a drink and an old book to peruse while the owners whip up a hearty supper in the next room. One can dream…

This soothing refuge boasts the midnight blue of a mid-autumn evening on the walls, punctuated by plucky orange-red and cinnamon woodwork and floors. A few bright spots of white, namely the slipcovered sofa and painted brickwork, serve to balance the deeply restful mood created by dark blue. Details like the beadboard-backed bookcase and granite hearth reinforce a unique nostalgia, and timelessness supersedes the fad of the moment to make a comfortably classic sitting area. Individuality shines through as the butterfly theme of the print on the mantel is echoed in the throw pillows, and according to preference, this room could change up quite easily with the introduction of a new slipcover or plaid or floral accessories.

What was your favorite room at grandma’s house?

To our valued customers,

Given the current market uncertainty, we felt it would be a good idea to provide you an update on our products. As you may know, we are a small, family-owned business that has been offering custom made furniture from our 15 US based workshops for over 20 years. Each of our custom furniture collections is made at a different workshop. We are a small business that supports other small businesses.

Fortunately for us, our workshops have minimal exposure to import tariffs. Our wood species (both new and reclaimed), iron beds, upholstery frames, seat cushions and floor cloths are all sourced in the US, as are most finishes and fabrics. Selective hardware, fabrics, and finishing products are imported but are a small percentage of our overall cost. Our wicker furniture frames are imported but cushions are all sourced in the US.

We do not anticipate any significant price changes due to import tariffs. We look forward to continuing to create unique furniture designed by you and custom built for you.

Thank you,

Your Cottage Home Team
